Day 50 - Sunday 19th June 2005Met Cam and Ninya in Wenceslas square. A lot of sculpture in the long square and in streets around was wrapped up a la Cristo, I lifted the kilt on one to take a photo. We then headed for the Palace. On the way we climbed the tower at Charles Bridge. First of our long climbs for the day. We headed up the long steep walk to the castle. Second of our climbs, and at the castle we did the third and climbed 287 steps to the top of the "Great Tower", the old legs were burning, I'm glad the bells didn't ring on our way up. The views though were marvellous, we toured the various rooms of the palace, with their huge ceramic heaters. The St. Vitus cathedral was particularly impressive, didn't make me want to dance though. We exited down through the Golden Lane past a modern bronze sculpture which the ladies had to rub for luck. We walked down towards the river and stopped at an open air restaurant that had a lamb roasting on a spit. Had great slabs of delicious lamb and large beers for lunch, delicious. Continued our walk towards the river encountering more interesting sculpture and went for a ride on a river boat. Evening entertainment was provided by a Marionette rendition of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" opera. It went for 90 minutes and the seats were getting pretty hard at the end. Dinner was a rather insipid pizza.
