Day 3 - Tuesday 3rd May 2005

Did a lot of walking today.  Spent the morning catching up with Cameron then lunched on the best hamburgers we have ever eaten (at nearly 8 pounds each).  We caught the train from Clapham Junction to Victoria then caught the bus to Westminster.  Walked across the Westminster Bridge and took a ride on the London Eye.  Quite spectacular, it is continually rotating but at a very slow rate, it takes about 35 minutes to go round once.  You even have to board and alight while it is moving.  It was a clear day so the views were spectacular.  We then went to the Dali exhibition, some wonderful surreal art.  Jude wanted to buy a Dali bronze for about 6,000 pound but it probably would have blown our baggage allowance.

Day 4 - Wednesday 4th May 2005

Shopped in the morning, and then cooked up a big pot of curry for dinner.  After lunch we headed off for the city and joined the "The Old City Nobody Knows" guided walk outside St. Paul's station.  This took us through winding lanes to tiny churchyards, past the guildhalls, past a church tower in the middle of the road that has been redeveloped as a residence, through to the Barbican where freezing winds whistled through the "brutal architecture" buildings, then across Bunhill Fields, where people were reburied after spending a short time buried in various overcrowded church yards.  We then visited John Wesley's (the founder of Methodism) chapel and took a welcome rest in the warm.  We finished the walk at Liverpool Street station and caught the tube back home.  Kirsten, our niece, visited to for dinner.
