Italy Day 3 - June 28th - Pisa and FlorenceWe got up early again, a feature of bus trips, and after breakfast we boarded our comfortable tour bus for the trip to Florence. We got to know more about our fellow travellers on the journey and found them to be a really friendly bunch. On the way we visited Pisa and the legendary leaning tower. It's a marvellous spectacle, Judy did the usual tourist trick of trying to straighten it and from one of my photos I thought she succeeded. Only disappointment was that we didn't have time to climb the tower itself. We lunched on a ham rolls while sitting on the grass in the shade. Very pleasant. We toured the beautiful cathedral before climbing back on the bus. On the outskirts of Florence we stopped high on a hill for a marvellous view of Florence before heading on down to our accommodation, the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo. After checking in we went for a short walk along the banks of the Arno River and visited a small craft market. Back at the hotel we changed for our evening activity, which was a dinner at the "Ristorante Villa Vecchia" in the Tuscan hills north of Florence. It was a very enjoyable evening. We had our traditional meal at tables set up in the garden while a band played on the steps above us. Some dancing and singing of traditional songs such as "Waltzing Matilda" before boarding the bus for the hotel.
