Sicily Day 12 - July 7th Giardini Naxos - Bay of NaplesAn early start today to ensure we are not waiting too long at our ferry across the Straits of Messina to mainland Italy. Only a short wait and we bought a tambourine off an itinerant musical instrument vendor. The trip across the Straits was pleasant. We continued up through the rustic Calabria through numerous tunnels and across numerous bridges past shepherds and olive groves and forests of the ubiquitous gum trees eventually driving via Salerno to our hotel, "Le Medusa" looking over the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius filling the northern skyline. We checked in to a very salubrious hotel with beautiful grounds and the first double bed we had enjoyed since Rome. Lovely. We were all getting dressed for dinner so it was a good time to take a couple of group shots to remember us all by. We ate on 4th floor that evening and enjoyed some excellent local wine before retiring to the terrace to watch the wedding celebrations in the hotel gardens and to take pictures with Vesuvius in the background. Later a few of us repaired to the gardens for a few Limoncellos and good conversation.
