Friday - 27th JulyThe highlight of today was the visit to Lark Quarry. It’s about 100k from Winton along a reasonable gravel road and contains a modern rammed earth building protecting a large expanse of fossilised dinosaur footprints. The footprints show a stampede of small and medium sized dinosaurs that had been grazing on the mudflats trying to escape a large predator dinosaur, (somewhat like a Tyrannosaurus) that had arrived on the scene. From the viewing platform you can imagine the panic that ensured on the day. The prints are in excellent condition and are well worth a visit. We returned via the Carisbrooke Station road. In the evening we visited the showgrounds to watch the preliminary events for tomorrows camel race.
